One Year // Jonathan + Kim

You know what I love to see? Young love. I have a special spot in my heart for young couples because I was married young! My brother-in-law and his girlfriend have been together for just over a year and they are so perfect for each other, I love seeing them both so happy and working well together!

When I was up in Whitby visiting family we decided to do a little impromptu photoshoot in the backyard! Jonathan wants to get better in front of the camera so I promised we would do a little shoot with them! It was so much fun! I love watching watching people warm up in front of the camera. As we were taking pictures they both became more comfortable and started working really well with me and with each other!

It’s a hard thing to do, being vulnerable in front of the camera and just trying to be yourself, as a photographer I try to make my people feel like they can be themselves and that that is what makes a great photo! So cheers to young love and impromptu photoshoots!

RARE- Walk/Run

This phrase has been going around my photographer group, “October is to photographers like April is to accountants.” It has been a busy month and I am not complaining! But it does mean that I am behind in my blogging. Editing and delivering photos takes precedence over blogging and marketing right? Yes.

Anyway, at the very end of September I volunteered at a Walk/Run in Cambridge for an organization called Rare, you can visit their site here for more information! They were raising money to preserve land and wildlife in our region. It is a great cause and they used the slogan #turnthemapgreen and it worked! Every $2 raised protected 1 square meter of land, which is awesome!

I had a lot of fun and it was a good experience for me because I’m usually the one running in these events. It was cool to see the behind the scenes action and get a feel for what it’s like as a photographer taking pictures of people running. It was a chilly day and luckily the rain held out for us making it the perfect temperature for a run and stroll through the gorgeous river walk trail starting at River Bluff Park in Cambridge!

Thank you to everyone who organized the event, donated, and participated! I love the community in our region and I loved being able to give a little bit back and meet some new people along the way!

Cozy Couple in Love // Danny & Jeannette

This wonderful couple book a shoot with me after they were given gift certificate (which I do offer by the way, in case you’re already thinking about Christmas gifts already… I may or may not be half way done!). Anyway, they wanted to do it at their house to keep it intimate and simple! I love sessions like this because people tend to me more comfortable in their own homes.

I love working with couples. Either engagement shoots or just because you are in love, they are so much fun. I love getting to work one on one with them, they just laughed together and loved each other and it was beautiful!

And just remember that you don’t have to be engaged to have pictures! even after our kids have moved out and it’s just me and W, (t-minus sixteen years!!!) I still plan on having our pictures taken every year!

Love at the Harbour // Becca and Phil

Whether you just got engaged or you’ve been married for a year or ten, it is always a good time to have pictures with the love of your life! I love these couple shoots because they are so much like engagement pictures, which are typically a lot of fun and super easy! Add a cute doggie in the mix and you’ve got yourself an adorable family.

Phil and Becca knew they wanted some pictures at the harbour as a change from some of the more common field, forest, and “green” backdrops. I love the way the boats added depth and the water was just perfect!

I love finding new places to explore so that I always have a handy list of locations for any photography inquiry. Since moving to Kitchener-Waterloo I have start exploring just a little bit but now that the busy summer is over I plan on hitting some awesome locations, stay tuned for a post all about it!

Fall Mini Sessions

In case you haven’t heard yet, I’m hosting a day of fall mini sessions! For $100 and half an hour of your time you can update your family photos in the best photo location of fall: an apple orchard!

Martin’s Family Fruit Farm has graciously agreed to host me for Saturday, October 13th, in their apple orchard! Seriously guys, fall pictures are THE best in Ontario! I have some time slots available but they won’t be available for long, so send me an email and book your time at whitsitt.sara@gmail.com!

So if you are in the Kitchener- Waterloo area or in the general area, it’s picture season and you don’t even need a reason! Whether you just got engaged (or if you’re about to get engaged and you want to propose in the presence of a photographer this would be perfect!), family pictures, anniversary, kid portraits, head shots, maternity, or really any reason what so ever!
